Nothing says 4th of July quite like red and blue stars. We used star shaped stencils as a resist to dye this festive table runner. The perfect touch to your 4th tablescape!
Cover work area with plastic table cover and have paper towels handy to protect against any possible spills.
Prewash table runner, rinse and dry.
Punch out stars from the stencil sheet using a star punch.
Spray the backs of each star with adhesive and adhere to dry table runner as desired.
Wearing gloves, mix 1/4 cup of well-shakenCherry Red All-Purpose Dyewith a quart of very hot water in a container and stir well. In another container, mix 1/4 cup of well-shakenNavy Blue All-Purpose Dyewith a quart of very hot water and stir well.
Test color on scrap piece of paper towel. If the color is too light, add more dye; if the color is too dark, add more water.
Dip your paintbrush into the Cherry Red dyebath and paint over stars as desired. Wash brush thoroughly and repeat with the Navy Blue dyebath.
Gently lift star stencils from table runner to reveal the resist.
Use RitColorStay Dye Fixativeafter dyeing and before washing to enhance the color, increase color retention and prevent dye from bleeding into white areas. Pour fixative into a spray bottle and spray the table runner. Let set for 20 minutes.
Rinse in cool water until water runs clear and let dry.
