Dye Stained Cornhole Board

Did you know Rit Dye can also stain unfinished wood? Let the summer games and DIYs begin!

Supplies:

  • All-Purpose Rit Dye in Black
  • Unfinished wood cornhole board
  • Sandpaper 220 grit
  • 3” Painter’s Tape
  • Small container for Dye
  • Sponge or Sponge Brush
  • Paper Towels or Cloth
  • Rubber gloves
  • Wood Sealer of choice

Time: 1 Hour

Difficulty: Intermediate

Instructions:

  1. If wood board has a finish, use sandpaper to remove finish to expose raw wood, wipe with damp cloth to remove any dust.
  2. Apply 3” Painter’s Tape vertically onto cornhole board and make sure edges are sealed.
Remove tape and apply wood sealer.
  3. Wearing rubber gloves, pour 2 tablespoons of Rit All-Purpose Liquid Dye into a small cup with 1 cup of hot water and apply onto unfinished wood using sponge or sponge brush. Do not oversaturate, apply as if applying a wood stain.
  4. Wipe off excess using a clean cloth or paper towels. Keep in mind that dye will dry lighter.
  5. To achieve an opaque finish, allow the dye to fully dry and repeat to apply another coat.
  6. Allow board to dry overnight.
  7. Remove tape and apply wood sealer of choice.
